M.A.S.K + G.I. Joe = WTF?!

If you've been listening to the show for any time, you'll know that I'm a HUGE old school 80's cartoon and toy fan. They are my bread and butter, for around 12 years of my life they were the air that I breathed if I wasn't trading G.I. Joe's or blowing up Megatrons secret Moonbase, I was helping Matt Tracker save the world from the evil V.E.N.O.M terrorists (ed-as Marc is a massive nerd, he doesn't mention that Matt Tracker and V.E.N.O.M are both from the TV show M.A.S.K).

So image the excitement that coursed through me when searching through the depths of Forbidden Planet I discovered that Hasbro have released a G.I. Joe Matt Tracker, after a little research I found out that the universes have merged into one terrifying world to live in.

Normally I would be all over this like a rash on a cheep prostitute and at first I was. I mean who doesn't want all their childhood worlds to work together, could you imagine 3 inch M.A.S.K toys, With all their insanely cool cars and planes? But then I started to think about it in more detail and my heart began to sink.

Think about it, not only do you have the insane Cobra forces, you also have the Decepticons and V.E.N.O.M all of which work out of North America that seem like a little to much evil happening in one place. Is it just me or does it seem like they are shoe horning it all in together? Whats next, Hasbro after all owns my little pony? Does that mean we'll get a G.I. Joe riding one of them into war. The ponies long flowing hair flapping in the breeze while Tunnelrat guns down Villans?

The figure itself is perfect, Matt looks old and grizzled with an expression that would make even a hardened criminal piss his pants. His jump suit and helmet lovingly recreated to a detailed finish. Everything about him works apart from the accessory, which is a green (seriously neon green) helicopter back pack... What the hell!?

I hope that they make more of the old M.A.S.K figures into G.I. Joe style action figures, but god please stop pushing things into one tiny universe, North America cant take many more 'secret' organisations!

The Black Freighter

The tension in the air is almost palpable as the clock counts down to one of the film industries biggest premires since George Lucas rebooted Star Wars for more money. I for one am shivering with fear and anticipation to see Watchmen finally take to the big screen, but this post isnt for me to gush with fan boy glee.

This is to talk about one of the books most atmospheric extra's of course if you've read the book you know I'm talking about 'The Tales of the Black Freighter'. The trailer is all over the internet and the pre-order for the DVD is avalible through various web sites, what can I say from the little i've seen?

It's visualy perfect, capturing the dark and terrifying feeling so prevalent within the sub story, I cant wait to see this horror story of 'humanities fall' come to life. As if this wasn't enough reason to buy the DVD also included in it is the biographical story of the first 'Night Owl' named 'Under the Hood' documenting the rise and fall of the 'Minute Men'. This will hopefully give a beautiful back history to the universe and really helps flesh out the entire experience.

Red Dwarf to Return

If like me you grew up in the 80's-90's and loved cult sci-fi you could hardly of failed to notice the phenomenon that was Red Dwarf. This series to me was the epitome of classic sci-fi with a genius comic twist.

This series was seriously the bread and butter of my childhood. I honestly doubt I would be the spaceship loving dork I am today without it. So I was over joyed to find out they are filming a two part special with the entire original cast. The simple premiss is that they finally make there way back to Earth. To be honest that is all I know as I write this.

But as the excitement bubbles up inside me so does my fear. The last two series of Red Dwarf in my eyes struggled to match the comedy gold of series 1 or even series 6. Taking the crew out of their element of excitement and adventure by resurrecting the entire crew of Red Dwarf, just took away all the fun and miss adventures they could have had. All I hope is they go back to the classic format and scrap the later ideas.

I will try my hardest to keep you all updated with the news as it comes!

(ed- This is where me and Marc disagree, I think Red Dwarf is massively over rated and just not funny for the most part. Seeing the direction this is going (the Rovers Return for Christ sake) makes me cringe and scream 'cash in' at my monitor.)

Dork In Your Eye: Episode 20, Still Going After a Year!

So this is it, episode 20, a year today the first podcast went up. Not bad going by any means. While this may be episode 20, including all the special coverage, double episodes and convention shows, we are at over 30 uploaded shows, which when you think about it, what with there being 52 weeks in the year is one hell of an achievement for me and Marc. I think this is something we can be at least a little smug about.

This shows goes back to the formula we love so much, with news and rotating segments. No fanfic frolic this week due to time, though we had picked one, but it will be in the next show! Obviously as this is the 1 year special, we did do something special at the end.

There IS a competition as promised, so make sure you listen all the way through for that. It's really bloody easy and we are giving away some unique prizes. While we state what they are in the show there may be some more, depends on how many entries we get I guess. Please send all competition entries to dorkinyoureye@hotmail.co.uk

I want to thank all our listeners, an ever growing group for there support. Though we want more, more comments and posts in all the various forms we except, be it email, blog comment or facebook group wall post, keep them coming! Oh and iTunes reviews, I want more of those. Greedy I know.

Now we here at CSP like to support people we think deserve it. So from this week on we are gonna be using music by a band called Sensible Fun. They rock hard! We are recommending them purely on how much we like there stuff, there are no bribes going on behind the scenes, honest.

Going forward there will be some changes, like I mention in the show a new home is in development and I will be getting some new equipment to do the show with. What we have is so wonderfully low tech that I will miss it when I stop using it. New tech though means hopefully for me, that it will be easier for me to put the show together for you, so that might mean more shows more often! Fingers crossed.

I recently de-listed the 'Awesome Super Cool/News and Specials' feed for certain shows. It consisted of the ill fated news shows and more importantly the convention coverage. I have recently had someone asking me for the con-coverage and much to my relief realised it's still available even though I DELETED the files from the server.

Guess what, it's Dork Fest 08... Part 2. I told you it wouldn't be long and we would be back with the second part of this special episode!

The same guest are back, it's just a continuation of the first part, so no, I wont be typing loads to explain it.

I will say this though, NEVER again. When I started DiYE my intention was to do short, easily digestible shows. This was not that. Damn.

Towards the end you might also notice some podcaster lag, this is when all those involved have been recording for hours and it's nearly stopped being fun. Nearly. We are all tired towards the end. But in some ways, that makes some of the best content.

Back Catalogue

Hey Guys, just a little announcement.

It would seem the vast majority of our back catalogue of shows are no longer available as a direct download from the site, though they do still seem accessible through iTunes, though I have no idea why or how, I just tried with episode 1 and it started to come down immediately...

What I will do is if anyone wants some of the old shows (anything before 15) and they can't get them through iTunes, then send me an email at dorkinyoureye@hotmail.co.uk and I shall look into what I can do. Most people don't go through the back catalogue anyway, so it shouldn't be much of a loss.

If there is no interest I wont bother trying to re-host them. Show 18 will be up within the hour!

So here at climbing shrimp we are lovers of all things dorky and geeky as you know.

While Ben is bringing you the fast and up to date news, I've slightly side stepped that and I'm bringing you a little bit of the crazyness of other dorks from around the world. If our holy editor is ok with it, I'll try and do a bi monthly "dorks are everywhere" post.

The first video is by a gentleman named John Williams, he's taken classic music titles from movies we all know and love. then using some insane musical talent converted them into acapello song about star wars, this is video is mind blowing.

And we are back... Again!

I know I talked about us having something for you every week. I am a big fat liar huh.

It turns out that just isn't possible right now. So me and Marc are now shooting for the much more achievable, one show a month.

Now, onto the show at hand. It's huge! Me and Marc take a look back in time over the last few months at all the genre fair the summer films have flung our way. Everything from Iron Man all the way to Hellboy II and beyond. We take a critical look at the films that shaped this summers box office.

But fear not, we digress as only we can and guess what, we have an awesome competition for you!

That's right, a competition. I am obviously not going to go into loads of detail here, you need to listen to the show, closely, to be in with a chance to win. The prize is fab though (ed-over use of exclamation mark?)!

Heroes Season 3

Dork In Your Eye: Episode 16, We're Back!

Hey guys, we're back!

Kinda. This isn't exactly a normal format episode, but it's far more in keeping with the regular style than any of the recent special episodes.

Before I get any further, let me just point out that this show is EXPLICIT. If you were not already aware of this, well you are now.

We had all kinds of technical issues with this episode, so it's not as detailed as it would have been, but take a listen, it's still very much us. My theory, due to us not doing a show in ages all our pent up rude and vile thoughts vented at once. So expect this to be very... Out there.

The show focuses almost entirely on us looking back at E3 (so 'lots' of game chat) and the San Diego Comic Con. Both of these happened over the last month. This means a fairly broad mix of things are covered, for example a lot less comic talk than usual, kinda. Also bare in mind that both shows are massive and we bye no means cover everything!

Next time expect a huge Comics are Crack segment and coming soon a look back at all things movie from this summer. Everything chronologically from Iron Man all the way through to Hellboy 2.

"More human than a human?"

Finally after months, no years of waiting I've had my grubby little hands on the exciting demo for Too Human. Seriously I never thought this game would arrive, it was first planned for the Playstation 2, then the Gamecube and finally the Xbox 360 by Silicon Knights the brains behind the Legacy of Cain series.

As I said it's been a long time in the making and this usually means one of two things, either it's full of problems that they just cant get rid of no mater what, or its tuned to perfection like a giant throbbing engine of death and destruction. Luckily for us it is the latter. This game is AWESOME!

The combat is refreshingly simple, none of this A B B B X do a handstand crap, it is simply each trigger button activates a gun and your right thumb stick hits creatures with your weapon. The crazy thing is how much you can do with so little, from simple combo's depending on the length of time you hold the thumbstick to targeting two completely different enemies with your guns. Honestly it's just too hardcore for me to put into words you've just gotta try the combat to really appreciate it.

The graphics are shiny pretty, my only little complaint was the cutscenes don’t really seem to live up to today’s standards. But that’s me being picky. Basically what I'm saying to all you crazy cats is download this demo! I'm waiting more then a little excitedly for the full game now, its fulfilled all my hopes and expectations.

Wanted.

I have just finished the TPB of Mark Millar's absolutely bloody amazing series, Wanted.

Wow, I wont go into detail now, as this will be talked about on the next show, but hot damn, that book is stunning.

It has one of the best 4th wall destroying endings ever, it has copious amounts of gore and mess. It's violent, whitey, apt and engrossing.

I think reading Wanted was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had reading a comic. I couldn't put it down and I am kicking myself for only reading this now.

A thank you has to go out to my comics pusher, Harry, without him I would never have read this. If the film is anywhere as cool as this was, even close, it's gonna be amazing!

It seems the film is pretty different to the book, more the feel than plot is taken over, but it still looks cool, check out the trailer. My advice though, go read Wanted before you see it in the cinema, it's a real treat.

Box Office SMASH!

So I've just returned from viewing the awsome visual death match that is the Hulk.

It was just as the title said incredible. I dont want to talk to much about it as I hope we'll cover it in the next "Dork In Your Eye!" But I wanted to say to all our fans in the world wide web watch it! It's worth every penny and proves that marvel keeping their movies in house is the way of the future.

Ben - I can also agree mostly with Marc on this. I saw the film last night, and I was leaving any talk of it for a show. It's lots of fun. This one two punch with Iron Man (though I rate Iron Man higher) has basically knocked anything DC can put together out of the water. Great performances, action and awesome Marvel referencing of what is to come. Tune in to the next show for more, whenever that will be.

Yo Joe!! I wanna play with them all!

Well today for me has been like a fan boys wet dream. As I browsed the internet I found some interesting pictures from up coming movies that were a huge part of my child hood. This is going to have to be a two parter because I have so many pictures to display.

G.I Joe:

Well we all saw the beautiful pictures of snake eyes looking like a complete bad ass, finally they have released the full cast in their amazing costumes. I was worried that no one would look like the character they are meant to be... Oh how wrong could I be?! thanks to wizard for these shots. (ed-for all the pics click for larger version!)

Destro: He looks at the moment the least like his character as he doesn’t have the silver mask. But from the information they have given that will be coming later into the movie.

Duke: He’s a chisel jawed bad ass and looks like it. Damn this casting was seriously perfect. They have gone away from Dukes usual outfit of a mustard yellow shift and camo trousers for a more stream lined outfit in keeping with the rest of the G.I JOE force.

Hawk: DAMN! I never thought I’d see a living breathing version of the toy’s I owned but I cant argue with my eyes. I cant praise the wardrobe and casting enough.

Heavy Duty: Like Duke they’ve moved away from the characters original costume, which I admit works well for this movie.

Storm Shadow: Not much can be seen in this photo, but from what can he again looks like an amazing live action toy, I just want to put him and Snake Eyes in a room and make them duel to the death for my entertainment. Which if we are lucky should happen in the movie.

The Baroness: I’ll admit I started drooling a little when I saw these photos. She is a leather glad bad ass who I would happily play action games with long into the night. I’m glad to see they’ve gone for platforms instead of the usual stiletto making her straight away a more realistic character. I’d seen older pictures from earlier in the movie with her having blonde hair, I’m ecstatic to see her black hair returned obviously as a part of the characters development.

After seeing these amazing pictures I’m even more excited about the up coming film, I mean WOW! It's going to be like watching all my childhood action dreams come to life… All they need to do now is the Transformers and G.I Joe cross over, who knows it could happen.

AMV hell!?

So while at the Bristol comic expo, they showered us with an interesting movie night full of fun and not so fun films made by fans and professionals alike. We have an interview coming with a few of the film makers.

But here is one of the films that blew me away it is AMV hell 3 and amazing mishmash of music and animé clips that can be anything from hilarious to tear jerker's.

Hey guys.

It's been a bit odd of late.

Me and Marc have been very busy with annoying real life crap, our sound guy has gone AWOL and news has been slow.

What have I been doing other than working?

Well I have read lots of comics, more than I can list now. I am well into Secret Invasion and loving it, I also read number ones of 1985 and Avengers Vs Invaders. Both of which were surprisingly awesome.

When it comes to films, I went to see the new Indy movie, kinda expecting to hate it. I was very surprised to really enjoy myself. It does exactly what it meant to and within it's context it's marvellous. Some amazing cinematography and great, fun, performances. I am sure discussion of this will turn up in another show soon.

Ah, shows. I am sitting on some awesome coverage of the Bristol Comic Con than Marc got. Not through any other motivation than pure laziness. Well, that and I have no time to edit and put it up. But the stuff is timeless and shall appear at some point, I promise.

Me and Marc are desperate to bring another Dork In Your Eye episode out, but it's all about making schedules align, which is hard as hell. Oh and ignoring the massive distraction of Rock Band when he comes over my place to record. Let me tell you that gaming experience is worth EVERY penny. So yeh, I lied a bit when I said we would have audio up weekly. My bad.

Oh and hello to all the new visitors that came by due to the Captain Britain episode. It's nice to see, make sure you come back soon, such as the chaps from CBR and Griff!

So watch this space, things are coming, oh and me, Marc and both our lovely ladies will be at the London Collectormania next month (July), my first ever con! I can't wait.

More Marvel Movie News!

And this is news of the most awesome kind.

First off the little known Marvel comic Runaways, a comic I have read quite a bit. The basic premise is a bunch of kids discover there parents are super VILLAINS and run away from home. They then start to get powers of there own and use them to over throw there parents, and travel in time some in a confusing kinda way. I imagine the time travel thing wont feature in a film though. Oh yeh, Runaways is being turned into a film. Did I loose the point somewhere in there?

If you are sitting there wondering why I care, the series was co-created by Brian K Vaughan in 2002, he is also writting the film. Cool huh. It's a fun premise and you can get some more info here.

The second and in just about everyones opinion way bigger news is that the Captain America film, titled: The First Avenger: Captain America will be set ENTIRELY in World War Two! That is such awesome news sourced from here.

Ending weeks of rabid interenet discussion Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige decided to clear some things up. This is cool cos seeing the first super solider square off against Nazis and most likely the Red Skull (Caps arch nemesis) in WWII will make for some exciting and visually awesome scenes.

So we shall have this first origin film, followed by another, The Avengers movie, sepperated by a couple of months on 2011. So expect the first to finish with Captain America firmly frozen in ice! To allay fears that to get any of these films you will have to watch all that came before Feige commented:

“Each of them have to stand on their own,” Feige said. “You won’t have to have seen any of the films to understand The Avengers… but it will help.”

I shall be seeing ALL of them, and I can't wait!

The Captain Britain Extravaganza!

This is something we are REALLY excited to bring you, with two awesome Cap Brit interviews. Just bellow this blurb we have an interview conducted by our roving reporter Marc, with the comic Legend Alan Davis!

Famous for of course Captain Britain, Clandestine and much much more. Alan also won an Eagle, the premier UK comic book awards. Alan is definitely deserving for the award of 'Favourite Comics Writer/Artist', well done!

In the show we review Captain Britain and MI: 13 Issue 1, we talk Captain Britain in general and of course a stunning interview with another comic master, Paul Cornell.

Famous not just in comics but his work on Doctor Who and Robin Hood. Oh and as you can see here, Captain Britain and MI:13 is doing very well with a second printing after the first totally sold out, well done Paul, looks like the success you were hoping for is happening!

THE ALAN DAVIS INTERVIEW... With Marc

Me: Hello everybody, I’m sitting here with one of my hero’s of the comic book world, the one and only Alan Davis, for those of you who don’t know, he is an award winning artist and author. He’s worked for and with many of the greats... To be honest go out there and read some comics because this guy is amazing.

(Chuckling) That’s enough of my Fanboyism I’m actually going to get on and ask some questions now.

Right well where to start… You helped re-create a character that was very Americanised and you completely reworked him into something classically British, he is one of the best out there...

Alan Davis: Well I cant really take all the credit for it because it was originally Paul Neary and Dave Thorpe who originally wanted to re-launch Captain Britain. My brief was to do a new visual design. So that’s what I contributed. Paul Neary had a definite idea of where he wanted to go, Dave was slightly different and that caused problems later on, but I’d say it was Paul who had the initial vision.

Me: I must admit I love the costume and in the comic that’s being done right now (Captain Britain and Mi:13) they’ve gone back to your original design. I thought it was a really fun design.

Alan Davis: (Chuckling and shaking his head)

Me: You didn’t like it at all?

Alan Davis: No no no.

Me: (Laughing) Okay. So can I ask you what your influences for it were, was it just the design brief of what Paul and Dave wanted?

Alan Davis: Ah no, they said just basically carte blanche, just come up with a new interesting costume, thing is I never realised they wanted more then one version (chuckle) So I just did the finished version. What I based it on was the horse guards outside Buckingham palace coz you know with the long boots white trousers, the sash and the helmet it was that kinda idea.

Me: Ohhh, yea?

Alan Davis: Originally I had crossed sashes, they eventually developed into a broader pattern, Then there was the idea of having a union jack on his head but not obscuring his face in any way. Unlike the original Captain Britain’s that was kinda like Spidermans. It was really that trying to keep some elements that were recognisable and some that are more militaristic

Me: (nodding excitedly trust me I was) It really came across...

Alan Davis: He’s got the military baring, Captain Britain’s very upright he has the ridged neck he looked very (Alan Paused slightly and smiling) You know the British Bull dog thing.

Me: I really liked that in your comics the front part Captain Britain’s mask was a solid piece.

Alan Davis: Yea its meant to be solid, Its meant to be curved at the front, its not meant to follow the shape of his nose and contour of his nose which colourist unbearably try and render a nose into it.

(Both of us laugh at this on going problem)

Alan Davis: But its meant to be curved so its away from his face, and the eyes that you see expressing aren’t Brian Braddocks eyes (captain Britain) they’re the mask reacting to what he is doing underneath which is why they are cartoony and exaggerated.

Me: Those were some of the things I loved about him.

Alan Davis: But its meant to be Arcane technology so in a way its meant to be more akin to Iron Man armour than a costume.

Me: Yea I noticed it is more technology, as in your comic where Slaymaster managed to get a copy of it.

Alan Davis: Yup Arcane technology. I have to say though it was mostly Dave Thorpe who was the original instigator of that.

Me: Wow that’s cool to know. You’ve done a lot of edgy material, Captain Britain actually killing Slaymaster, the attempted rape of Pyslocke, some of the clandestine stories have a dark undertone, how do you feel that’s lived up to the modern comics where every thing is so dark and bleak?

Alan Davis: Well It really bothers me, the monotone nature of comics where everything is dark, every one is cool, every one wears leather and every ones sexy. You really need the light and darks to get contrast you need the guy whose kinky, the guy who’s plain, you need the contrasts to get the right shade and I just find modern comics monotonous because of that, I try to have characters that can have a laugh and a joke, try and live a normal life and the violence and the battles are an intrusion on the normality that they want.

Me: That’s what I love about “Clandestine”, its got beautiful artwork to start with, nice comic characters and the interaction between family and its dynamics.

Alan Davis: That’s all there is to the “Clandestine” because the one thing you learn when you’ve been in comics for even a short time, there is only so many cliché of characters, you’ve got the strong guy, the telepath, the fast guy the one who can fly then you’ve got a few quirky powers like the metamorph odd things like that. But there’s very little originality in the concepts the costumes and the names. So when I came up with the “Clandestine” it was the family mentality and interactions that were important. The actual powers and things came later; they evolved as I developed the rational of the group.

Me: So really the personalities came before the thoughts of their powers?

Alan Davis: Oh yes.

Me: Wow that’s really interesting.

Alan Davis: Well there was a certain amount of interaction between the evolution but when it comes to designing costumes and powers there are only so many things you can do. So when I first started there were characters and power traits that moved from one to another because it didn’t fit in with the personality. When it came to designing the actual costumes I did a few and thought I don’t want them to look like a group I don’t want them to look like this or that.

So I ended up designing costumes like one was a 70’s costume one was an 80’s. The kids are 50’s because that when the super hero’s were innocent so they looked like Legion of Super Hero’s or Robin, Marvel Girl, Super Boy that sort of thing, they were more like a generational thing which fitted in with the idea of them being a long lived family. The family came first

Me: So any hints you could give us to where “Clandestine” is going? I know you’ve said you have just finished writing and drawing it.

Alan Davis: Not really as I don’t know what my involvement with “Clandestine” will be in the future.

Me: Really? How do you feel when one of your vast catalogue of characters are taken on by other people?
Alan Davis: I don’t look. The thing is I know that over the years I’ve upset people with the way that I’ve carried on their characters and wound up some of their story lines. For instance on “Excalibur” I had no idea where Chris Claremont was taking anything. I was just put in charge of the book and told “wind these up”.

(Alan smiles and laughs) When I took over the “X-men” I was on them for 18 months and it was basically we have these story lines they must be wound up now. They were other people’s story lines I had no idea where they were going and as a professional you just basically have to do your job. The editor gave me benchmarks to hit and I just aimed for those.

Me: So a nice simple question... Actually not very simple, what was your favourite comic to work on?

Alan Davis: I think what ever I’m working on at the time; you have to believe in it or else you cant function. I think my most successful comic in the finished item matched my original conception was “Killraven” that was closest to how I imagined it.

Me: Unfortunately we’ve got wrap this up here, thank you very much for your time its been amazing speaking to you. Wow I’m still in a little shock and awe.

Milton Keynes Vs Bristol Part 2!

Milton Keynes Vs Bristol – comic death match of the century.

No unfortunately this post isn’t to report an on going war between two cites, fighting to the death in a no holds bard slogfest where one will fall to the dirt crushed beneath the boots of the glorious winner… Although after writing that intro I really wish it was.

This is going to be my handy comparison between Collectormania and the Bristol comic Expo, in this article I will be supplying our loyal readers with my dark and dirty knowledge of the cities to make your lives easier for future cons!

Bristol Comic Expo.

Travel.

Yet more trains! Again pre-book for train tickets it makes life A LOT easier. The train journey is quite a direct one with only two changes and one of those being an underground station. Over all these were quite uneventful they even had room for my quarterstaff!

Hotels.

Well now, there are two hotels (The Ramada and the Express Holiday Inn) almost on top of the convention centre and train station, they both increase there rates for the convention as it brings in so many people, I would suggest booking ahead of time, I mean well in advance.

I stayed in The Express Holiday Inn and regretted it from the very start. They not only lost my booking they then tried to charge me an extra £150 on top of an already expensive room. The room itself was pretty poor in fact I can safely say that the best thing about that entire hotel was the shower. Its only other good point is the close proximity to the Convention being literally 2 minutes walk, you could see the Entrance Queue from my window.

The Ramada as a hotel was beautiful, situated only 4 minutes from the event. The staff were very helpful, the bar service was a little slow but they did have around 3 bars. A lot of the talks, signings and panels took place inside the Ramada’s air-conditioned halls. Trust me you’ll be thanking the gods for that.

The lovely thing about Bristol is that its so pedestrian friendly, maps every where and everything within walking distance. So even if you stay in a hotel a little further away don’t be disheartened.

Comic Expo

It couldn’t be more different from Collectormania. It started for the fans on Friday night with the film festival, which was a complete blast. Giving you a chance to meet other people like yourself, enjoy fun movies and small time premières (we had the première of witchblade) as with all fan works some of them were good some of them needed a little more time to mature.

I can happily recommend “Run Rincewind Run” ,“Back Issues” and the now legendary “AMV hell”. During this night they also run a Cos-play contest, which as you can imagine is something not to be missed. To be involved you have to sign up before on the web page, otherwise you aren’t able to compete. The prizes are worth competing for, each winner getting a full box set of some great anime DVD’s.

The next two days are a blur, I recommend serious planning, I’m talking full military invasion style planning here, synchronise watches and be healthy because you are going to do a lot of walking between The Ramada and the Events hall. All the stalls and artists pushing there work are in the Commonwealth Museum (events hall next to the train station) its full of old comics and artists, unlike MK there is very little in the way of toys, figures and costumes to buy.

The Ramada is filled with everything else, signings, panels, portfolio sessions and places to sit. The signings can be really crowded so be patient.

The Stars

As I said all the stars/guests are in the Ramada, it’s a lot less formal then MK, the signings feel personal even though you are surrounded by people. As well as signings they have Panels, these are really fun to go to make sure to get there ahead of time because there is nothing more annoying then people turning up late. At the Panels you can ask well almost anything you want, it’s a great way to learn about what’s happening in the future of the comics you love.

For all those up and coming aspiring artists they have set up a Portfolio session where you can take your work and have it looked over by artists from all parts of the comic industry, people have known to get their breaks like this.

The Eagles.

The Eagles happen on the Saturday night and are the British Comic Awards, I’m not going to say much about them as we have full coverage in the podcast, but they are worth attending its open to the public from 9:30 onwards but if you want to cough up £60 you can buy a three course meal and dine with the movers and shakers of the comic world.

The final body count.

Both these conventions were so much fun, I can recommend them both. But they are both different. Collectormania focuses more on like the name says collecting stuff be it autographs or toys that’s your weakness you can find them all here, Bristol comic expo fixates mainly on comics and what there future holds. This is obviously present through out the weekend but it’s a great place for old school die hard fans and newbies to the comic world.

Milton Keynes Vs Bristol Part 1!

Milton Keynes Vs Bristol – comic death match of the century.

Here is part 1!

Milton Keynes Collectormania.

Travel.

Travelling to Milton Keynes can be very hit and miss, speaking from the point of living in Cambridge. To take the train to MK you have to travel out to London and the pretty much back in the same direction, the journey being up to 4 hours and costing almost £120. The trains were frequent but they do run out of room fast, I’d advise pre-booking as you are assured a seat and more importantly it makes it cheaper!

For people like myself who live nearer to MK check your local bus depot, I discovered much to my frustration there is a bus that cost only £6 and can only take an hour, seriously worth checking for. The train station is central enough to the area that you should be at most 5 minutes from any hotel near the event.

Hotels.

There are plenty of hotels in the area, in fact you could probably live in a different hotel each month for a year and still not have tried them all. But unfortunately I couldn’t afford that adventure (after the cost of the train tickets) so settled for the Premier Inn, as Lenny Henry suggests in all his commercials. The place was quite cheep for everything we got. Two nights and a full all you can eat breakfast was only £150!

The Premier Inn was amazingly well situated for what was needed. At just 5 minutes walk from the Centre MK where Collectormania takes place. It is also 2 minutes from Xtreame an indoor ski slope with a cinema and lots of restaurants.

Collectormania.

The convention itself was inside The Centre MK and down by John Lewis. It became obvious why they cant charge for this event as there was no way to police the people walking in and around the shopping centre.

Friday was a lot quieter, with hardly any one dressed up and almost no one shopping at the booths. I would suggest if you want to do some shopping on all the stalls and not feel rushed this would be the day to do it. You can browse, talk to the shop owners and generally have a lot more relaxing time.

More importantly you also get first picks on all the goodies and trust me there’s a lot of em! You could easily blow a grand there, from replica weapons, cosplay costumes, old rare comics to figures and toys.

The Stars.

It’s a little intimidating when you turn up at the areas separated for the guests. They are sat in a separate section, which is almost entirely walled off to the rest of the con, above them hangs huge pictures of the performances that landed them convention seats. These posters gaze down onto the cattle grid of queue lines that snake away filled to bursting with screaming and fainting fans. I imagine it's just as intimidating being the guest looking out into this sea of heaving bodies.

But when you finally reach the front of the lines you are greeted by a wonderful smile and a fun conversation from some one who is happy to be there. The best advise I can give you is use your common sense. So here we are, convention season in full swing.

Marc and I actually get together in person, for what feels like the first time in ages, to talk all about Collectormania, one of the big UK conventions based in Milton Keynes.

In this first part (of three) we give you some news updates.

Iron Man does very well...

But strait after that and another brief chat about how awesome Iron Man is, we dive right into convention stuff.

First up Marc chats with Mario from Apocalypse Comics (ed-no picture, blame Marc!) in his own unique style and then accosts David from The Monster Company (ed-pictured). Episode 15, also known as the one where I sound very much... HIGH!

This was another very random show. Marc was tired from work and all I could really think about was starting a new job, which went very well, thanks for asking!

Anyway, due to this we really rampage all over the news and some comic stuff. It's right up there with the most random shows we have ever done. Frankly we are always setting the bar that bit higher for bad taste and language.

Have fun with the show, it's a very off the wall experiment in crazy. Sugar can do all kinds of odd things to you.

OK, so what we talked about at the start of the show, the way in which we might be changing the format, it's happening. Due to time and the fact Marc aint gonna be about over the next few weeks we shall be doing stuff differently.

So first off, that seperate feed I couldn't be bothered to create, I did create. So as you can see on the right of the site, there is a new subscription option and feed reader thing. The content that will be appearing in this is two fold.

It will predominately have the new short and direct News Show. A show that will go out frequently but irregularly and just have the latest news from the world of geekdom.

This will be a way for me to get news out to you guys quicker, as frankly I just don't have the time to keep the posts going as it takes ages to read about and then write about news. This way I can do a quick show when I have time and just get it out there!

The other stuff you will be getting in that feed are the special shows, such as Awesome Super Cool (Iron Man coming next) and coverage from the conventions, something you will NOT want to miss so make sure you subscribe to the RSS feed.

It takes a little while to appear in iTunes but as soon as it does I shall let you know.

So let me know what you think about this new set up, do you like having a seperate feed, would you prefer everything in one?

Gears of War Comic

It was announced last Thursday that DC and Epic Games are together releasing a Gears of War comic. Supposedly the comic will bridge the gap between the first game and the hotly anticipated sequel.

Now I have to say that I was not that impressed by the first Gears of War, admittedly I only picked the thing up once, but I have watched Ben play the whole thing through. Even after that I was still left feeling a little bit like “Oh was that it?” as I am sure those of you who actually played it felt too.

I do however have higher hopes for the sequel, even after that odd man Cliffy B did that silly fake chopping through paper thing at GDC and told us that the first game was just an introduction. And that the second according the their website will be an “epic story of survival, loss, and retribution.”

This I think is where the comic comes in, I have no doubt that DC and Epic Games are both trying to capitalise on the hype of the upcoming sequel but I also think that it is a good indication that Epic are really thinking about the story for Gears 2. Not to mention that any comic that comes from the Gears universe is going to be all about chopping shit up… Cool!

The comic is set to be released under DC’s Wildstorm imprint and is due to reach us in October a month before the second game hits the shelves.

This is not on topic in any way, but I wanted to let you guys know any how.

I have just been offered a job. I wont get into the details, but it's quite likely I will take it.

Some of you know that over the last few months (since just before Xmas) I have been unemployed, a live in husband of sorts.

In those months I obviously started up this site and podcast.

Now with me and Marc working it would seem more than likely that the site might not be covered as well as it has been, though of late it's been very quite anyway, I am hoping to get some other people to help with content though, so watch this space.

I hope to be able to keep the podcast regular though, but due to the nature of mine and Marc's work that might just not be possible. I think it's fair to say that if the big news no longer gets covered on the site, you will hear about it on the show. Due to this, you might be getting a longer but less frequent show, at the moment I just don't know.

Anyway, I wanted to keep you all up to date. Let me reiterate, the site and show are continuing, but if you wanna volunteer your help in a news or any capacity, drop us a line!

I’ve just finished re-reading the classic and breath taking watchman in anticipation to the 2009 movie, as you’ve surely been reading the site for months now, you’ll have seen the pictures of the movie costumes. Well now I have more fun pictures for our loyal readers.

TOYS!!! Watchman TOYS!!! At the moment we only have two figures (Nite Owl and Rorschach) but boy do I want them... right now.

They look perfect, the paint works, the sculpts my only concern is the how unarticulated they look with the very basic pin joints instead of the fully posesble ball joints.

We will keep you informed as more pictures from both the film and toys come out!

Marvel started doing this month’s well actually years ago and finally DC has caught up. What am I talking about? Movies? Video games? Nope none of the above. I’m talking about the DC Comics Super Hero Collection, a magazine that contains a small figure/statuette of the character featured in the magazine.

The magazine is itself very interesting, featuring a history of the character, its nemesis and compatriots and a selection of artwork that usual involves their concept and development. The issue that ended up in my grubby little hands was discussing the Joker, it was well written if a little repetitive with its description of the characters. As for the statue it was a beautiful lead sculpture standing around 3 inches tall, the hand done paintwork really brought the Joker to life and at only £6.99 well worth it.

I have the pleasure of owning three marvel statues and I look forward to collecting their DC counterparts.

Comic news I want to cover. There is loads of stuff coming from the New York Comic Convention this year. But it's not all something I care about. The two stories I have for you now are in equal parts awesome and insane. So let me hit you, hit you hard!

Not Marvel Zombies... Marvel... Apes!

I wish I was joking I really do, or do I? Marvel Zombies was awesome, well to start with, then it went on to long and made me want to never see a Zombie in a comic again. A hard thing to do considering how much I love them, or should that be love to hate them. Anyway, Apes.

So, from an idea that was suggested to Quesada as a joke by a fan when he was asking where Marvel Zombies could go, to a fully realised and now commissioned concept that you will be seeing in shops. You have to ask yourself, why?

Thor Vs. Skrulls, my money is on the one with the hammer...

So from August there will be three issue mini series that will be telling the story of how the Skrulls, pretty foolishly, invade Asgard. Matt Fraction a big up and comer within Marvel, whose name is appearing on more and more books will be doing the writing. So far no artist has been unveiled.

So it's gonna be Norse god's versus Skrulls. Awesome. I can't wait to see all those little green men getting squashed by Mjolnir! I guess this is another one to add to my buy pile and it puts to rest the fear that certain characters in the Marvel Universe may not be affected by the insidious alien invasion.

Its been a while since I did a little digest of news, so here we are with three film related stories for your perusal, enjoy!

Ronald D. Moore Movie Trilogy!

Ronald D. Moore has signed a deal with United Artists to bring to the big screen three Sci-Fi films. No more detail are available at this time, but that doesn't stop us from being excited. The man behind Battlestar Galactica, the best Sci-Fi perhaps ever seen on the small screen, has dabbled in big screen Sci-Fi before.

He has also worked on ST: Generations and the best every Star Trek film, First Contact. So, what this means is, yes please Ronald, we expect something adult, big and awesome! Frack yes!

Petersons game has ended.

A cryptic title, but let me explain. The long time awaited film adaptation of the Orson Scott Card classic Sci-Fi novel, Enders Game, has lost it's director. Wolfgang Peterson has dropped out of the project and the producers are looking for a replacement with a start date for filming in early 2009.

On a good side note, Card has finished the first draft of the script. I am a massive fan of the book, having read it and it's many sequels several times. I actually just finished listening to it in audio book. If you are not aware of Cards work, you really should give it a go, quality stuff.

Norton comments on Incredible Hulk rumours.

People have been worrying a great deal about how this film will go down in the box office. With rumours flying about and speculation rampant about issues in editing, the feelings for the movie have been somewhat negative of late. But Norton has something to say about that.

“Every good movie gets forged through collaboration, and different ideas among people who are all committed and respect the validity of each other’s opinions is the heart of filmmaking,” said Norton. “Regrettably, our healthy process, which is and should be a private matter, was misrepresented publicly as a ‘dispute,’ seized on by people looking for a good story, and has been distorted to such a degree that it risks distracting from the film itself, which Marvel, Universal and I refuse to let happen. ”

“It has always been my firm conviction that films should speak for themselves…” he added. “Our focus has always been to deliver the Hulk that people have been waiting for and keep the worldwide love affair with the big green guy going strong.”

Damage control or the truth? I guess we will never know. I still think the film looks awesome. Bring it on.

Dork In Your Eye: Episode 14, We Want to Believe

Anyway, welcome to the blog entry for show 14. 14 weeks of shows, not bad.

This show is oh so streamlined compared to last weeks. We do our usual deconstruction of seemingly obscure news. It's not that obscure, it's just there wasn't that much to pick from, blame them, not us.

We then reach the final foreign master-works segment. Even though at the end we say there is one more to come, it has not been recorded yet. A little trade secret, all those segments were recorded at the same time. That would be why, when we reach the last one, we are rambling and our brains have melted. Sorry about that, though to my ears it's pretty funny.

We then top off the show with some Comics are Crack. We never fail to have something to talk about for this. We will continue to do this until someone asks us to think of something new! When it comes to the Dorkiest Moment of the Week segment it's still in our minds and we do consider it every week, it's just that me and Marc have been worryingly normal of late, though I am sure that will change soon.

Oh, the comics we talk about are infuriatingly well into there runs, sorry about that. But they are each comics that are worth getting on board with. Buy or acquire the previous issues and then get regular on the monthlies. They are really worth it.

On other news Marc will be very shortly telling you all about some convention going's on. It's a crazy busy month ahead of us, so busy in fact, Marc is actually gonna miss Iron Man in the cinema. It's been a very slow week when it comes to news. I think from now on this show post is going to be a chance for me to spout a bit. Because I really need an excuse huh.

As you may have noticed, not much newsworthy stuff happened this week. I did go and record two other podcasts though. The first at the start of the week for BritXbox (now up) and the second for Star 107.9 which should be appearing soon (I will do a post when it's up), I hope. Doing the show for Star was awesome. It was my first experience inside a real recording studio for the radio no less. Both these shows were video game related, but both were very different in tone, Stars being orientated on the casual gamer.

Changing subject, I can't stress how cool some of the content is that Marc might be getting from the various conventions he shall be attending this summer. One exclusive is confirmed and he is trying very hard to get more. I have no doubt my tenacious partner in crime will succeed.

I really hope that the news will pick up and that that annoying thing called real life doesn't get in the way for me and Marc to post about it (twice I have spelt his name correctly now!) if it ever does pick up.

Now the show... It's something I very nearly scrapped. But we haven't missed a show yet, that's in 13 episodes. Not many podcasts can boast that trust me. The reason the show nearly got binned was that it was recorded at around 11 PM Friday night, while inebriated. Not just jolly, but very nearly smashed. Now there is no excuse, other than Marc certainly deserved a drink and I wanted some!

The content is even more all over the place than usual, but this is the first time we have done a proper music segment. The two bands me and Marc chat about are Dream Evil and Poets of the Fall. If you don't know them yet, well, now you should.

Other content is a Foreign Masterworks segment, thankfully recorded a few weeks ago, some slurred and almost comedy news and a Comics are Crack ditty focusing on 'indy' stuff.

So take a listen, have a giggle and let me know if you want an uncut, probably very long and at times down right terrifying version of the show!

EA & MTV take the p**s!

Today it was announced that Rock Band will finally be coming to Europe exclusively for the 360.

On May 23rd the game shall launch with all the tracks available to download in the US immediately available over here. I would be very excited about this, but there is a slight problem.

EA are greedy bast***s! Let me explain. This is the pricing structure they have set out for us lucky people across the pond.

When the game came out in the US a Special Edition was released that included the game, a Fender Strat guitar, the drum kit and a mic, all for $169. But we here and Europe are obviously saps.

We are getting an Instrument Edition priced at £129.99, this includes the three peripherals but not the game – which you will need and is priced at £49.99. So if you want to have the whole experience you are looking at a minimum of £180.

You will obviously want another guitar as well, oh and the instruments in this edition are not wireless. The wireless guitars will sell for £59.99. The separate drum kit will sell for £69.99.

Now you can expect most retailers to do a bundle with the game, but for anything more than £150 I shall be saying no thanks. Having played Rock Band already I can comment that the game is a slightly sup par version of Guitar Hero, it's certainly an easier version.

So the big draw is in having the whole kit and playing with 4 people and loving it. At that price though, I think EA have made a big mistake. There greed knows no bounds, but keep an eye on your local games retailers for deals, there better be bloody deals!

Look at that, a bad rhyme, fun times eh. Ooh, I almost sound Canadian there. Anyway, the show.

This week we have some good and bad news at the top of the show for you, but don't get your hopes up we are not cancelling the show. At 12 episodes now and going strong, things are just gonna get better and better. We have some exclusive content on the way, but it's to early to say what.

After the news we dive into the second part of our foreign films segment. This week we look at some of the best animation to not come from the West. Not hard as so much Western animation is so many kinds of crap.

Its been a sad year so far and another legend has left us.

He was the man who played epic characters from Mosses to Ben Hur, I mean who will ever forget him screaming on his knees in front of the shattered Statue of Liberty. If you haven’t worked out whom I’m talking about yet, it is the legendary Charlton Heston.

On Saturday April 5th he passed away in his Beverly hills home at the age of 83, he had been suffering from Alzheimer’s which had been diagnosed in 2003.

I will never forget the first time I saw him in action against those damn dirty apes, he was mesmerizing to watch, a charismatic performer who suited rolls that were larger then life, a talent that is sadly missed in this day and age.

But he was more then just an actor, he was one of the first in Hollywood to stand up against racism in 1963 going as far as to join the civil rights march in Washington and helping Martin Luther King in his campaigns. (ed-though actions like that were marred by his very right wing pro-gun stand)

Halo: The Fall of Reach... FILM!

But in a nutshell a speculative script has been written by Stuart Beattie a writer with credits such as 30 Days of Night, all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies and the forthcoming GI Joe film. The script he has written is based on the Eric Nylund book Halo: The Fall of Reach (click me for plot and info).

The crazy thing is that this script was not commissioned but done by Beattie between projects (for nothing, hence speculative) as he is a massive Halo fan who was annoyed by the very slow progress of the film. To put this in perspective Beattie is a top flight writer and really doesn't need to do spec scripts. He has been commissioned to write other game to film adaptations such as Spy Hunter, Splinter Cell and Gears of War.

The source over at Latino Review said this:

"The script is, first and foremost, a character-driven story about a soldier named John who was kidnapped or "conscripted" by the UNSC when he was just six years old, and then brutally trained to become an elite Spartan warrior known as Master Chief 117.

The script then takes us through the horrific first contact with the Covenant hordes on the doomed colony world of Harvest, and then climaxes with the spectacular fall of the UNSC forward base on Reach, during which every other Spartan is slaughtered.

The script also gives detailed outlines for the second movie, HALO: RISE OF THE FLOOD, which takes place entirely on the Halo ringworld, and the third and final movie, HALO: BATTLE FOR EARTH, which roughly follows the events of Halo 3, the game.

One cool advantage of this first script is that (like the shark in JAWS) you don't even see the Covenant until halfway through the movie. And because all the creatures are CGI creations, this cuts the budget down dramatically and makes a first Halo movie that much more viable. For Halo fans, it's like the prequel that provides all the answers to questions they've thought about for years. For non Halo fans, it's an exciting action movie that provides a clear, concise introduction to a world five hundred years in the future with relatable characters and a terrifying alien menace."

How bad ass does that sound! Very accurate to the cannon of the games and books. My god this film has to be made!

(ed-I REALLY hope this aint an April fools... As the site says it aint and it's been picked up all over, this seems legitimate...)

SI Prequel Comic Reviews!

Well hello there.

Me and Marc are frothing with excitement over the imminent release of Secret Invasion #1 which hits the shops in just 2 days time at the time of this post. So I decided to put together a total of 5 reviews of the latest comics from the Marvel Universe that I have read and tie into SI.

I am very much aware that this is not all of them though, but hell, I am only one man. Make sure you keep an eye on the site for the SI review and next weeks show which I am sure will have some in-depth discussion over the comic within the Comics are Crack segment. Enjoy.

Mighty Avengers #11

While (this issue, as the next load are, is) technically not an SI tie in, this title is gonna be one of the must reads over the coming months. This in conjunction with New Avengers are both being written by Brian M. Bendis, the dude writing the core Secret Invasion (SI) mini series of 8 issues.

The issue it's self is loads of fun. The big hang up for readers of Mighty Avengers are the somewhat retro thought bubbles. Something that has been mostly dropped from comics within the Marvel Universe. I believe it was Bendis's desire to set this series apart from the New Avengers and this was one way he did it.

Besides the thought bubbles, which can really fill up a page (make sure you check out Doom's thought bubble rant) the issue is awesome. The resolution of the Doom story and the reveal with Spider Woman bring some big things into question. I really don't want to spoil anything in these reviews though as with SI just round the corner you should be buying these and getting ready to be amazed.

As this is the first time I have reviewed the book, some discussion of the art is in order. Mark Bagley is not a name on my best artist to check out list. But the art is fine. Nothing really stands out, though I do love how he changes the style for the stuff set in the past. Actually I prefer that style to the rest of the art throughout the book. This need to be on your buy pile.

New Avengers #39

After 39 issues of what is arguably one of the best books within the Marvel Universe, possibly any universe, this issue really is a massive SI tie in and it's even more awesome for it.

I mean, I am not sure how important Echo's character will be within the event, but this was all kinds of cool. After a couple of slow issues with lots of talk, this just dropped the chat and went a little insane. Wall to wall action here. That's gotta hurt eh Wolverine.

The centre of the issue is one amazing fight sequence with Echo, Wolverine and well, I wont spoil it, but it's really worth a read. Even the romantic elements at the end were done amazingly due to the dialogue and layout.

I love the layout of this book. The way in which each page is set out with some great framing really makes the whole issue zing off the page at me. I loved it. The art it's self by David Mack is great. Flick to any page and just love it.

There is not exactly loads of story to talk about here, it's a big fight and loads of fun for it. A must buy after its couple of weeks delay that ties in directly with SI. Check this shit out!

Ms. Marvel #25

I do not read this comic on a regular basis. This was my first ever issue of Ms. Marvel. A character I find kinda annoying with Mighty Avengers has had her own comic for just 50 issues. That's not many by Marvel standards.

As you can see by the cover, this is a big SI tie in. It was recommended to me by a guy who works at the comic shop I get all these comics from as he knew I was mad on SI.

So, written by Brian Reed, someone who aint on my comic radar at all, I was a tad dubious about this. But I read it with an open mind.

The issue is cool though. With a great mix of old style art to convey past events and of course some wonderful modern style art, I have come to one very strong conclusion. Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel is HOT!

But seriously the issue was no doubt fun. With some great action, some interesting character stuff and some fun reveals it kept me interested throughout. Add some cool Skrull happenings and some big question for what will come next and this might just make my ever increasing buy pile. Maybe.

Secret Invasion Saga One Shot (free)

This is a must have! Seriously. It's a free comic.

This aint the first time Marvel has done this to promote a big event. But to my knowledge this is the first time a freebie of this nature has come in a proper comic book form.

Basically this will catch you up on everything you need to know about before SI kicks off on Thursday. Written John Rhett Thomas the 'story' is a loose one. Basically Iron Man is researching Skrulls, that way we get to see everything they have ever done in the Marvel Universe all the way up to SI.

It's such a handy little comic. A great recap with exerts of art and story from around 40 years of marvel comics. Good times. I say this though, you might have trouble getting hold of this now as demand has been very high.

Secret Invasion Prologue (free web comic)

As you can see, that's a picture of Dum Dum Dugan, our man Nick Fury's right hand man, before that is, Nick went away... Anyway, this little 10 page story is great. Focusing on the hard bitten SHIELD agent, the surprise and reveal in this is amazing.

You need to check this out as what goes on is immense. Writen by Bendis with art by Leinil Yu the artist working on SI (controversially, whos style I LOVE) this is a great short read and so so worth it.

Xbox Live to get Original Movies

Microsoft has gone into a partnership with the brand new Safran Digital Group in a deal that will produce the first ever original movie content for XBL. Sounds good so far, but hold on...

Mediaweek is reporting that the content will be six short films and will appear on the MS service around summer time. But don't get too excited, Safran Digital has been founded by Peter Safran, the man responsible for the GOD awful Meet the Spartans. The critically and commonly hated 300 spoof.

For once I am glad that content on XBL will most likely only be available in the US, they can keep it.

Dork In Your Eye: Episode 11, Rants in Your Pants.

Hey guys, episode 11 is here, the most ranty one yet.

But before I get into the show, let me first of all say well done to Darbz, the winner of the competition. To here more about what he has won and why, check out the show, obviously.

This show was really very opinionated. Me and Marc must have been on something crazy, never has a show been so rant related. We talk games, film and TV but save comic talk for next week (what with SI coming out!).

We also début a new segment that shall be recurring for the next few weeks. As always very little research has gone into it, but it's entertaining.

Throughout we stay on topic, sorta, but go to some crazy places. Hell it gets so heated towards the end I have had to record a disclaimer. This was one of the most fun shows I have recorded recently and I hope you enjoy it to. You know what to do.

Gibson on the war path!

Gibson Guitar has filed a lawsuit against Viacom’s MTV Network, Harmonix and Electronic Arts (EA). The suit claims that 'Guitar Hero' and 'Rock Band' violate their patent for technology to simulate a musical performance that Gibson developed.

Activision filed a pre-emptive counter-suit against Gibson early last month saying that the company’s patent should be made invalid by the courts. This would prevent the company from seeking future damages.

In reply to the lawsuit a spokesperson for Harmonix said that, “This lawsuit is completely without merit and we intend to defend it vigorously.” MTV is mentioned in the suit because it bought 'Guitar Hero' from Harmonix.

Bloody ridiculous huh. What are your thoughts?

Here are three little news stories for you.

Tintin

The Daily Mail has reported that 17 year old Thomas Sangster will be playing the roving reporter hero for the new mo-cap trilogy.

Sangster's is best known for his role as Sam (Liam Neesons son) in Love Actually.

Constantine 2

IESB spoke with Keanu Reeves recently and it turns out that any possibility of a sequel to the underrated Constantine is now very unlikely.

A few months ago, Francis Lawrence (the director) mentioned that a sequel may be possible but it all depended on a script.

IESB report that "Reeves was decidedly less optimistic and said that despite planning it at one time, a second go-round as John Constantine wasn't something he'd be interested in doing anymore."

Rambo V

At the end of Rambo IV we saw the hero going home to his dads farm in Arizona. It turns out though that with the now steaming ahead Rambo V Bulgaria will be doubling up for Arizona in a bid to save money.

If this is mean we can expect the entirety of Rambo V to be set in the US and filmed in Bulgaria, or if just part of it will be set in the US, remains to be seen.

I'm back after a few days with family and relaxing over Easter, so lets get into the good stuff.

I have been told that the costume interpretation interpretation from the G.I. Joe comic. They sure do look cool.

In the USA Today article, Stephen Sommers (the director) says that Snake Eyes "[is] the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock."

Now we all know Marc is more excited about this than I (ed-how did he not see these!) but I can't deny the dude looks cool.

Dork In Your Eye: Episode 10, It's all about the Crack baby.

Hello gentle listener and welcome back to Dork in Your Eye!

This week we are a lean, mean podcasting machine, our run time is at just under 30 little minutes.

No link dump this week, as really, there just wouldn't be much to put in it. We talk about Iron Man and Wolverine cartoons, we talk Iron Man in Hulk (like sexually) and to be fair we talk about the JLA movie and how crap the new title is. All that is news we have covered on the site, so take a look you lazy so and so!

After that we get onto the extremely addictive nature of comics and how I am a super dork in the worst possible way. And to end the show we go out on a downer and give a fitting and well deserved tribute to one of the fathers of modern science and Science Fiction, Sir Arthur C. Clarke.

This week really is a roller-coaster, from craziness to almost tears, make sure you listen, and make sure you keep on listening in the future for a cut segment and more from Adam Darby and his composing talents!

So crazy news for all our movie and comic fans. We all know one of the gods of comics Mark Millar (no relation to Frank) well he has just started a new comic known as “Kick Ass” at the moment we are only blessed with the first issue as the second has been delayed and yet there is already a rumour, a buzz if you will, that Hollywood is already interested in picking it up!

Allegedly Matthew Vaughn (director of the beautiful Stardust) is going to be writing it with his partner in crime Jane Goldman (again script writer from Stardust). All I can say is WOW two issues and already a movie in mind! What secrets has Mr Millar passed on to make this possible?

Even adults love playing with Batman.

I love my toys, I get excited by toys. So you can imagine my excitement when I finally got to lay my eyes on the new Joker figure from The Dark Knight. I’d seen the Batman’s I mean lets be honest when you’ve seen one Bat you’ve seen them all. But this is the first chance I had for a close up of the Joker out of his packaging.

The Four Horseman (an amazing foursome from the toy power house Mattel), have out done themselves with these figures. The sculpts look amazing, the Joker in particular stands out with his startling purple suit, each figure stands at 6 inches so they can be used along side other Mattel/DC products.

One large improvement over there other DC ranges is articulation giving them ball joints at the elbows and knees, which to be honest most have been lacking. Mattel has said these toys are as much collectors items as things to be played with, each figure coming with a “prop” (there words not mine) based on something from the movie, the Joker has a card and one of his thugs has a change of mask etc.

Over all these are really exciting figures that I think children and adults will love, there are still more figures to come. I just hope we get some good Two-Face’s out of this.

IDW and Angel.

IDW loves Angel. The reason is that the relatively new comic book series, Angel: After the Fal,l that is set right after the end of season 5, has been a massive success for them.

It does deserve it no doubt, it's very well written with beautiful art and printed on lovely high quality stock. Hell, I shall be picking up issue 5 tomorrow with a bit of luck.

Due to this massive success IDW have just announced there plans for the future of the series.

Issues 6, 7 and 8 are the start of a special three-part 'stories-within-the-story' adventure detailing the 'First Night' for all the main characters involved. Finally for the fans we will get to see the direct affect of the big fight at the end of season 5 for all the main players.

Issue 6 is going to look at Spike, Connor and Lorne. Issue 7 will look at Wesley and a surprise return for a so far unannounced character. Issue 8 will look at Gwen, Gunn and the effect on LA's populace after it was thrust into Hell. That all sounds bloody amazing, but there is more!

Issue 9 will be picking up directly from the shocking cliffhanger (I can't wait now!) at the end of issue 5. Oh and we can expect issue 8 and 9 in June as they will be coming bi-weekly.

Oh and I am stil not done yet. Spinning off from 'First Night' we will be getting a Spike miniseries coming to the shops in July. Titled Spike: After The Fall this special four part series takes Spike from that fateful 'First Night' and explores his changing relationship with Illyria. The mini series will answer many questions, not least being how he took over a certain mansion.

This is great news for all the Angel fans and I as a fan of the comic can't wait. Thanks IDW, you have a loyal customer here.

Rosario Dawson on Sci-Fi

This show idea sounds cool and is really appealing to the inner geek in me.

Basically the story is that Rosario Dawson and David Atchinson are making a TV show for the Sci-Fi channel called True Believer. The basic concept is that a comic book aficionado (like me!) hires an actual superhero to train with, though at this point I don't know why. But I am sure hijinks will ensue.

True Believer will join three other notable pilots for the Sci-Fi channel. The Stranded (based on a Virgin comic) and Deputized about an everyday guy who is suddenly given superpowers and joins up as part of a universal space police (Green Lantern much?).

Sci-Fi channel will most likely also be putting the BSG prequel Caprica up to be shot soon. The timing perfect to fill the gaping hole left by BSG's absence next year.

To me, those four shows all sound fun and enjoyable, so fingers crossed they will all do well in next years pilot season.

Hear, in one nice simple post I have for you not 1, not 2 but 4 lovely little bits of movie news for you!

T4

No not that Sunday morning music compilation of much crapness on TV, but the fourth in the Terminator franchise. The news is that the new young Chekhov from the Abrams Star Trek film (Anton Yelchin) is going to be playing the young Kyle Reese.

In McG's film (yeh that is the 'name' of the director), Reese is a survivor of the man-vs-machine war who becomes friends with an early edition of the Terminator cyborg. His grown-up son (Christian Bale), whom he fathered in the past with a rather easy Sarah Connor, is also now involved in a fight to save robot ravaged civilization from machine control.

Sounds cool, and it also sounds like McG is taking things under control and really going for the franchise all guns and lasers blazing! Though I don't really think Yelchin looks anything like the bad-ass Reese.

Justice League Mortal

First off, yep that's the name for the new film, read into that what you will. It, might make sense when we find out more about the plot.

It seems that the film has 90% chance of heading away from Australia after the film was refused the 40% "New Film Production Rebate" that WB was hoping for.

Director George Miller said, "A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking." He continued, "If that's going to be the final decision, they're throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs."

So that's the JL... M news.

Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk

Robert Downey Jr. said this:

“It happens to be a scene where I basically approach [William Hurt’s character, General Ross], and we may be considering going into some sort of limited partnership together,” So Iron Man will be in the Incredible Hulk.

Downey added “The great thing is he — and I don’t want to give too much away — but he’s in disrepair at the time I find him. It was really fun seeing him play this really powerful character who’s half in the bag.”

He also said that that one unnamed star would “probably appear in the end credits” of Iron Man. Ooh. We already know that Hillary Swank is making a cameo, so could this be Sam Jackson as Fury, damn I hope so?

The Wolfman
